TYPE Wall Panel

COMPLETION 2013

Peel Panel is a wall paneling system based on the concept of peeling away from a linear wall. The various peels can extend from the center to act as seating or horizontal surfaces, depending on the program they are used for. The sample panel shown here is the basic configuration, though each component could be manipulated to create a different formation. The panel acts as self-supported screen which can be easily attached to any wall partition to generate a curvilinear spatial manipulation.

All the joints are notched together resulting in a construction process that requires no adhesive or anchors. The unit can be packaged flat and assembled easily without any tools. Since the prototype is modular, one can rearrange the panels to fit any size and to create varying effects.

The panels were made with Baltic birch plywood and Peel Panel is a collaboration effort between Mika Yamaguchi, Anna Van, Utako Tanebe and myself.
